Bishops appear to support Senate health care bill!

logo

The next vote will be an up-and-down vote on the Senate bill in the House.  If the House votes for the Senate bill, with its extreme pro-abortion provisions , the bill will go to Obama who will sign it into law.  Period.

There is some pie-in-the-sky talk about passing a parallel bill that would restrict abortion funding.  That would need 60 votes in the Senate (we have 46) and the presidential signature - obviously not possible.

Yet the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is working on this proposal. (article below)

There is only one acceptable solution.  It is up to us!   THE HOUSE MUST DEFEAT THE SENATE BILL!

Please make your calls again.  The message this time is simple: the House must defeat the Senate bill.

This vote can happen any time, so please call immediately!  Your call will determine whether or not our country will respect life in the future!

Thank you,
Anne

Dangerous Negotiations Over Abortion   [Grace-Marie Turner], Saturday, March 6, 2010, National Review Online

America's Catholic bishops are being used in a negotiating ploy that could lead to enactment of Obamacare and to federal funding of abortion.

Representatives of the bishops reportedly are working with the White House and Democratic leaders in Congress to write legislative language that would "fix" the liberal abortion provisions in the Senate health-care reform bill. They are being told that congressional leaders will pledge to enact their abortion protections as separate legislation amending the Senate bill after it's passed. That is a smokescreen designed to keep the bishops at the negotiating table while the real action to enact Obamacare takes place in the House.

President Obama and his congressional allies are meeting with House Democrats to convince them that they must pass the Senate's version of the bill "to keep the process moving." But it's more than just one step in a process; if the House passes the Senate bill with a simple majority of 216 votes, Obamacare will become the law of the land.

Once that happens, the Senate may, or may not, pass a second bill to "fix" the original bill's abortion language. It's far from certain that this will happen; in fact, it would be extremely difficult to do so. Abortion provisions historically have been barred from the 51-vote Senate reconciliation process as being not germane to the budget, and there are not 60 pro-life votes in the Senate to pass such a bill through regular order.

It would be the scam of all time if House members were talked into going first and voting for the Senate bill "to keep the process moving" toward passage of a reconciliation package, only to find that they have put Obamacare over the finish line with no guarantee of any changes. If the House passes legislation identical to the Senate bill, the president will surely sign it, and it will become law. That means House Democrats will have voted for a bill that clearly allows federal funding for abortion, which the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops solidly opposes. Any promises that this would be fixed later on won't be worth the paper they might, or might not, be written on.

The National Right to Life Committee issued a strong statement on Friday saying:

When all of the pro-abortion provisions are considered in total, the Senate bill is the most pro-abortion single piece of legislation that has ever come to the House floor for a vote, since Roe v. Wade. Any House member who votes for the Senate health bill is casting a career-defining pro-abortion vote. A House member who votes for the Senate bill would forfeit a plausible claim to pro-life credentials. No House member who votes for the Senate bill will be regarded, in the future, as having a record against federal funding of abortion . . .

House members who vote for the Senate bill will be accountable to their constituents for what the Senate bill contains, including its pro-abortion mandates and subsidies, without regard to . . . solemn assurances that Congress will revisit the issue in future legislation.

The bishops must insist that the House never votes on the Senate bill, but instead starts with new health-reform legislation that protects against federal funding of abortion. They will have leverage only if protections against abortion are explicitly included as part of a larger health-reform bill.

The House could vote anytime on the Senate bill, and the bishops must not be part of this deceptive and dangerous strategy

"Stand Up! Speak Our! Save Lives!" Youth Conference huge success!

logo

More than 100 students left B. C High yesterday afternoon ready to save the world.  They were informed and inspired by Dr. Mildred Jefferson, Linda Thayer, Marilyn Bernie, Marianne Luthin, and Mike Barnett.

The day culminated in an awesome presentation by Lila Rose about her work at Live Action exposing Planned Parenthood lying to women and facilitating statutory rape.  Lila is a college senior.  It was very inspiring for the students to see someone hardly older than they who is accomplishing so much for life.

The day was possible because of the dedication of Priscilla Keough and Kate Ulibari.  Priscilla said, "I talked to some of the kids at the end.  They all said they enjoyed every minute of the day and had learned a ton of things they didn't know.   So I think it really was a success"

Adults who work with youth groups attended a parallel session with Mike Barnett, organizing expert from Washington, D C.

Choose Life applications delivered to the RMV today!

logo

Dear Friends,

We finally made the trip into the registry to deliver over 1700 Choose Life applications to the manager of special plates.  It has been a long 7 years working on this project and we could not have done it without you.  Thank you for all your help, your prayers, your kind words and encouragement, especially when we were so tired of trying we were considering giving up.  We are so glad that we didn't

So what happens next?  The registry will begin processing all the applications and having the plates manufactured.  The estimated time for the plates to be complete is 8 - 12 weeks.  The registry will notify those that reserved a plate when they have been shipped to that branch.  In the following months, the registry will manufacture 500 plates per month until they reach 5,000 plates total.  These will be distributed to stock the branches.  I need to clarify this but I take this to mean the people who did not register with me may have to wait one month to go to the RMV to pick up a plate.

I will continue to update the web site as events occur.  In the mean time, I am researching how we will be distribute the funds and how we will keep people informed of the good work this plate is doing.  We will be organizing parish drives to reach or quota of 3000 plates.  Oh, and I see a celebration sometime in May at a certain Tavern in Lancaster with many Choose Life license plates parked in the yard.

God bless you all!

Merry Nordeen, President, Choose Life, Inc.

The 41st vote in action! And Obamacare rammed through by 3/18!

logo

Before we get into what we must do in the House, I thought you might like to see Senator Brown on Obamacare.

The action now is in the House because Brown is in the Senate.  When you consider that 64 Democratic Congressmen voted for the Stupak Amendment, that there are 50 states, and that  Massachusetts has the most liberal Congressional delegation , for us to bring two votes for Stupak was a super accomplishment!

The task is different and more difficult now.  The House will have to vote for the Senate bill - as is - with unrestricted abortion, abortion fees paid by everyone, etc.  They will not have a chance to vote on Stupak language

We know Congressmen Lynch and Neal would vote for Stupak again.  What we now need them to do is to vote against the Senate bill because it is full of abortion.

Your call must make clear that you expect Lynch or Neal to vote against the Senate bill.  You may be tempted to email.  That will not do!  We must call!

If you do not live in one of the districts, your call to them will not help.  What will help immensely will be your call to at least two friends in the district encouraging them to call.  I have listed the cities and towns in their districts.

Please make your calls today!  They are incredibly effective!

Thank you, Anne

40 Days for Life story:

Two volunteers stood in the rain and prayed at a 40 Days for Life vigil last week as a young man

drove up, got out of his car with the engine still running, and walked over to talk to them

"I just wanted to thank you for being here," he said. "I know you know what kind of a place this is," he said, pointing towards the abortion facility. "Can I tell you a story about it?"

The prayer volunteers nodded yes, and the young man began to pour out his heart.

He said a couple of weeks ago, his wife was not at home and he had no idea where she was -- until he got a phone call from the hospital. "My wife had been admitted because she was having seizures," he said. At the hospital, he found out his wife was pregnant. It would be a struggle with two young children already, he said, but they'd work it out.

As he spent more time at the hospital, it began to dawn on this young man that no one was telling him the whole truth. He realized something was seriously amiss when his wife told him she'd left her car at an abortion facility.

He thinks she went there for a chemical abortion -- the abortion pill. She began to have seizures and was taken to the hospital. His wife insisted she was still pregnant, but he simply didn't know for sure.

"I haven't stopped crying in over two weeks," he said. "What kind of place is this that would do this to a married woman without telling her husband, the father of the baby?"

"We asked if we could pray for him," said one of the prayer team members. "As we prayed, the young man began to cry again. Just imagine how he felt -- betrayed, helpless. We assured him that he will get through this trial and that God loves him."

Vigil participants hugged him, and he thanked them for being there on this rainy day. "Please keep being here," he said, and then returned to his car and drove away.

"While we did not save a baby from an abortion," said the volunteer, "we brought Christ to a hurting father."

Thanks and God Bless,

Jay G. http://www.dtf-jayg.blogspot.com/

Breaking: Lila Rose exposes more illegal PP activity, Fitchburg PP facility

logo

Lila Rose and Live Action Filmshttp://www.liveaction.org/ have just released their newest video exposing the ninth clinic that broke laws requiring medical providers to report potential child abuse to the state.

New undercover footage shows staff at a Milwaukee, WI Planned Parenthood abortion clinic counseling a purportedly 14-year-old statutory rape victim not to tell anyone about her 31-year-old boyfriend and coaching her how to obtain an abortion without her parents' consent. Lila has sent the full video to Wisconsin officials.  It is hoped they will join Alabama in investigating.

Lila obviously has other videos that she has already recorded and is waiting to make public.  One cannot help but wonder if there is a Massachusetts PP video among them...

COME HEAR LILA IN PERSON at "Stand Up! Speak Out! Save Lives!"on March 7th at Boston College High School!

President Obama has released his health-care plan that contains $11 billion in funding for "community health centers," much of which will go to Planned Parenthood clinics in places like Fitchburg, Marlborough, and Milford.

Under the leadership of Chris Hanley, Chapter Chair, members of Mass Citizens and other pro-life people in Fitchburg are waging a daily battle to try to keep the PP facility out of the down town area of Fitchburg.  At the recent City Council meeting Chris cited the Supreme Judicial Court to explain to the Councilors what authority they have.  I have included her presentation below because what she said applies to every city and town in the state.

Would you please be sure to share the news about "Stand Up!  Speak Out!  Save Lives!" with every student you know.  Remind them pre-registration is free and see if they will let you come with them

Also, if you have not sent your post cards to the Fitchburg landlords, please do that today!

Statement by Chris Hanley to the Fitchburg City Council

I call your attention to the article from the Boston Globe about the opening last week of an abortion clinic in Brookline.  The clinic is across the street from a day care center and practically next door to an elementary school whose students walk in front of the clinic to get to school.  Under the state "Buffer Zone" the town has removed the parking meters so that protesters cannot park there and has painted two large yellow circles.  Local shoppers and businesses have complained that there is no place to park, that protesters with signs are everywhere outside the Zone, etc.  Obviously, the town of Brookline would be better served if the clinic were in another location within the town.

As stated by Jesse Mermell of Planned Parenthood, the proposed Planned Parenthood facility in Fitchburg would not perform abortions but would do abortion referrals.  Facilities that do not perform abortions are not protected by the Buffer Zone, and protesters could lawfully be anywhere and everywhere approaching and talking to people.

Just as Brookline could have been prudent and located the clinic away from central down town, so can we.

The decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (see notations on pages 611 to 613 of Framingham Clinic, Inc., et al. v. Board of Selectmen of Southborough et al. Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, Suffolk) allows a municipality to have some control over the placement of facilities within its boundaries.

Let Fitchburg learn from the travails of Jesse Mermell's home town of Brookline.

Hearing on Physician Assisted Suicide Bill - follow-up report

logo

I testified, on behalf of Mass. Citizens, against the Physician Assisted Suicide Bill at the hearing along with representatives from The MA Hospice Association, The MA Catholic Conference, and ten other citizens who had a personal interest in opposing the bill.  The story from the State House News Service is below.  It was a pretty tame hearing.

It is worrisome, however, that the "push calls" are being made, that "the upcoming euthanasia hearings" were featured on numerous news broadcasts the day before the hearings, that Marjorie Eagan wrote a column yesterday forcefully advocating PAS, that the Herald ran another story that seemed to agree with the bill, and that a number of newspapers covered the hearing.  Mass Citizens will keep on top of this and let you know!

Marie Sturgis, Legislative Director

STATE CAPITOL BRIEFS - TUESDAY, FEB. 23, 2010
STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE

LAWMAKERS WEIGH ASSISTED SUICIDE MEASURE
When John Norton was a teenager in the 1950s, told by his doctors he had Lou Gehrig's Disease and less than five years to live, he would've "happily" taken a pill to end his life. More than 50 years later, Norton now calls it a "tremendous blessing" that he wasn't able to end his life. He told his story Tuesday to a handful of lawmakers considering a proposal to sanction assisted suicide in Massachusetts. Norton said that if such laws existed when he was first diagnosed, he might not be alive today. Opponents of the proposal (H 1468), sponsored by Rep. Louis Kafka (D-Stoughton), said too many opportunities for error exist in the current proposal. The proposal would allow patients medically determined to have fewer than six months to live to request medication to end their lives. Backers of the legislation, dubbed "An Act Relative to Death with Dignity," say it empowers suffering patients to choose death rather than prolonging their illness. Even one supporter of the proposal said he worried that the bill failed to safeguard against potential errors. William Stearns, who said he lost his mother, father and sister to terminal illnesses, said the proposal would require written or oral notification, which some terminal patients are incapable of providing. He also noted that a patient who obtains lethal medication could inadvertently leave it somewhere accessible to children or unauthorized users.
